Who are we?
SoulStage is a new production company dedicated to reimagining theatre through jazz, soul, funk and RnB styles. We create bold, collaborative events that bring musicians and theatre artists together, championing originality and freedom of expression.
Tamara Tare & Mahlia Chellembom (Founders & Producers of SoulStage)
We had the chance to meet at the Royal Academy of Music and have been inseparable ever since. We’re part of a jazz band in Switzerland who we write music for together, and after performing in several jazz concerts, we found ourselves talking about something we both deeply felt: although we love the theatre industry, we didn’t always feel free to sing in our own style. We often had to adjust our sound to fit a particular musical theatre expectation rather than express our true voices.
The more we talked, the more we realised we weren’t alone. So many singers around us felt the same way. We rarely get to hear them sing the music they want to sing in the way they truly want to express it.
And that’s how SoulStage was born.
A concept created to give singers the freedom to explore other styles, experiment with arrangements, and use their voices however they choose! A space for authenticity, creativity, and genuine musical expression.
What is a JAZZIFIED Theatre Night?
JAZZIFIED is a night where jazz and theatre intertwine. We aim to bring together soulful tunes and timeless musical-theatre repertoire in an intimate and welcoming space.
At its heart, JAZZIFIED is about freedom of expression. We aim to give singers the opportunity to explore jazz, reinterpret songs, and use their voices however they want, in whatever style, tone, or texture they wish. JAZZIFIED celebrates that liberating artistic space!
